Interviews with humanitarian groups, authors, artist, actors, Producers and directors of Family Friendly Movies

All of you know I enjoy a great conversation with people, especially authors who convey a timely message..Well. this is one of those conversations, I completely enjoyed having and INFORMING you the listener about another great book, that you need, honestly need.

The insight and wisdom found wihtin the pages of this book are so timely to our culture today and where we all stand within the frame work of social media.

We live in a hyperconnected world, and yet we’re more disconnected than ever. We spend more time scrolling through Instagram than we do talking with our families. We’ve never had more “friends”, but we have no one to meet for coffee.

Joe Battaglia understands that we are wired to have community, and that smartphones cannot meet our needs for love, acceptance, touch, and connection. In Unfriended, Battaglia uses research, personal insight, and biblical truths to help you:

- leave behind the anonymity of the Internet and get face-to-face with people.
- go beyond the “like” button and establish meaningful relationships.
- get out from behind your screen and enjoy God’s creation.
- avoid toxic social media debates and become a vehicle of change.

Unfriended will help you shake off your digital fatigue and get back to real-life, real-world relationships with real people.

Additional guest chapters by Iris C. O’Brien, Michael Guillen, Donna Rice Hughes, and Delilah.

A wonderful interview with Debbie Wuthnow, the Executive Director of

While it’s easy for most people to follow along with the top stories and the names in the headlines, it can be a daunting task to keep track of which Senate and House seats, Governor’s races, and state legislative positions are up for grabs.

iVoterGuide keeps track of these critically important races across the U.S. at many levels. With less than 30 days until the November 2018 general election — and with early voting having begun in 25 states — it is no exaggeration for us to say that this election will make or break the future for our families and freedoms.

Here’s what’s at stake:

1) The party of the President almost always loses seats in the midterm election.  In four out of five recent midterm elections, the opposing party made huge gains.  In 2018, with the more conservative party having control of the White House and both houses of Congress, the importance of conservative turnout can almost not be overstated.  People of faith need to turn out in record numbers.  So much hangs in the balance.  We all must do our part – and then we must trust God with the rest.

2) If the Left wrests control over the U.S. House of Representatives, they will almost certainly attempt to make good on threats of impeaching the President — raising the stakes for retaining the balance of power in the House.

3) If the liberals gain control of the Senate, we will loose the momentum we’ve made in judicial appointments — momentum that could one day protect religious liberty in our public schools and reverse Roe v. Wade. We all know that at least one U.S. Supreme Court seat is at stake, but did you know that the balance of power throughout the circuit courts also rides on the outcome of Election 2018?  Take a look at the research that  shows what the Courts will look like in 2024 if the Left takes control vs. what it will look like if the Right keeps control of appointments and confirmations.

4) Many of the state legislators elected in 2018 will be governing during the 2020 census and redistricting process.  More than 80% of elections are decided in the primaries because of gerrymandering, and the party in control of the state legislatures at that time will affect votes more than a decade to come.

So, how can you impact the outcome of the election?

* Fully participate in and be a good steward of our right to vote.  Knowledge is power, and learning who and what is on your ballot is incumbent upon you as a citizen.

Share the truth, in love, with other believers.  iVoterGuide provides an easy-to-share platform for you to help other God-fearing Americans know where the candidates stand on the issues important to people of faith.

Be salt and light to those who don’t have the same foundations as you do but who are willing to listen and engage.  iVoterGuide works hard every day to provide data so you can share the facts with confidence and in a way that convinces — rather than intimates or frightens — voters of many backgrounds, beliefs, and ways of life.

iVoterGuide doesn’t tell anyone who to vote for.  We just present the facts so people can compare the candidates side-by-side, based upon what they do — not just what they say they’ll do.   We’re looking for candidates who won’t just say what they’ll do, but will go out there and do what they say!  We call it “walking-the-talk,” and it’s the basis for our only annual fundraising event, the Walk-the-Talk Awards.

The event takes places in Dallas, Texas on October 23, and if any of you are in the area, we’d love for you to join us as we honor some Texas legislators who not only campaigned as conservatives, but went on to govern on those same principles.

Even if you’re not close geographically, you can be a part of this immense effort by contributing or sponsoring a table.  We are covering 1,000 races in all 50 states, and all of our work is made possible by your giving and God’s faithfulness.
As the voices on each side of our national debate dominate the headlines, we hope you will take this opportunity to see not only what’s at stake but also what’s possible when the people of God pray, share, and turn out to vote.

Wonderful interview with Stasi Eldredge about her latest book, "Defiant Joy"

“The newsfeed on any given day is heartbreaking,” says Eldredge. “People are not only losing hope, they are losing heart. And we need our hearts back. We need true hope. It is possible in the middle of the sorrows of life to experience a life changing, reality based joy that is tethered to the hope we have in Christ!”

Written in one of the toughest years of her life, Eldredge explores how to embrace the mystery that suffering and joy can coexist. From the loss of loved ones and physical pain, to depression and struggles with food, Eldredge provides a blueprint to choose love over fear and fully understand that, because of God, we can know a joy that is defiant in the face of this broken world.

“Defiant Joy is a clarion call to press into the heart of God in new and life-giving ways,” continues Eldredge. “In the age we are living in, possessing joy can feel almost impossible. Yet, we are called to have joy, and if we are called to it, then it is possible. This book is an invitation to know a joy – a joy fully grounded in hope – that strengthens us and sustains us in the middle of our everyday lives and in the middle of the extremely painful seasons as well.”

My friends, this is one you truly want to listen to and share with all that you can. Our brothers and sisters in North Korea are in critical condition and need our support and prayers.

Firsthand Accounts Tell of Atrocities in North Korea

Open Doors USA Launches Resource Site for Media

Under the totalitarian Kim regime in North Korea, details about day-to-day living there are often scarce. Open Doors USA recently launched a new online resource for media detailing the human rights violations and oppression of the regime. The website provides firsthand accounts, photos, videos, stats and interview opportunities. The firsthand accounts detail living through prison camps, escaping the country, starvation, beatings and human trafficking.

Open Doors USA estimates there are tens of thousands of Christians in camps, restricted villages or otherwise imprisoned, many of whom are suffering under unthinkable conditions.

In addition, the organization is calling attention to North Korea in early November. On the third at 5 p.m. PT, David Curry, president and CEO of Open Doors USA, is hosting a webinar to provide the latest persecution updates. He will be joined by South Korean Pastor Min-soo, who will provide firsthand accounts on North Korea. The efforts are part of the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church on Nov. 4. Individuals and churches are encouraged to participate and can access free, downloadable resources from the Open Doors website. Resources include:

  • Prayer guide
  • Videos
  • Sermon outline
  • Bulletin insert
  • Poster
  • Infographic
  • Online prayer wall

According to Curry, the International Day of Prayer is an important reminder for Americans living in Western countries.

"The situation in North Korea is dire. We must support North Koreans with our prayers because many have said our prayers can be felt and provide strength," said Curry. "We must never forget those who are facing the unimaginable simply because of where they live."

Open Doors USA is asking for prayers for:

  • Protection, strength and endurance for North Korea Christians who face persecution from state authorities and their non-Christian families, friends and neighbors;
  • North Korean President Kim Jong Un and his regime to come to know the one true God and open his country to the Gospel for healing and restoration;
  • God to move in Kim Jong Un to release the estimated 50,000 Christians who are unjustly held in detention centers and prison camps throughout the country;
  • The underground church to grow in boldness and be ready for widespread evangelism efforts when the opportunity arises; and
  • Kim Jong Un to allow for the creation of new churches where North Koreans can freely worship.

“SAVE US” Movement Works to End the World’s Horrific Persecution Problem

“Why is the world silent while Christians are being slaughtered? The Jewish people understand all too well what can happen when the world is silent.” – Ronald S. Lauder, President, World Jewish Congress

Too few Americans know that 215 million Christians in a record number of countries around the world are subjected to brutal human rights abuses and even genocidal violence by authoritarian regimes and radical groups.

Western Media, countless elected officials, and even some faith leaders have been silent too long to this Anti-Christian plague of oppression and death sweeping the globe .

These crimes against humanity have been allowed to fester and proliferate.

Modern, Global Church Persecution Statistics

  • By 2013, more than 450,000 Syrian Christians had fled their homes during two years of war and persecution (NY Times).
  • 255 Christians are killed for their faith every month (Open Doors).
  • 214 churches and Christian properties are destroyed every month (Open Doors).
  • 772 forms of violence (beatings, kidnappings, rape, arrest, etc.) are committed against Christians every month (Open Doors).

Current data and anecdotal information from reputable sources, including the United States Government  show this may be the most dangerous time in history to be a Christian.

Save the Persecuted Christians Coalition is a vast and growing group of faith leaders and community influencers determined to raise awareness of the plight of the world’s Christians (Wall Street Journal).

We seek not only to alleviate the suffering, but to discourage and stop those responsible for it by igniting a movement to hold the persecutors accountable and create real cost for their crimes.

Join the “SAVE US” Movement at

The 10 countries where Christians face the most extreme persecution are, in order:

  1. North Korea
  2. Somalia
  3. Afghanistan
  4. Pakistan Sudan
  5.  Syria
  6.  Iraq
  7.  Iran
  8.  Yemen
  9. 10. Eritrea

With such staggering statistics available, and the knowledge that most of these crimes are not covered in the media, the STPC Coalition developed a special news—to capture current instances of persecution that do make the news and to provide those concerned an easy way to share these heartbreaking stories with others.

One of the ways Americans can render support is by encouraging their pastors and faith leaders to visit and to order a free banner to display in front of their houses of worship. These simple banners feature a graphic “SaveUs” plea with a cross and the coalition’s website where Americans can learn about the global persecution of Christians and find out more about what they can do to help.

How is it possible that young children and teenagers are increasingly engaging in sexual experimentation? What's behind this, and as responsible fathers and mothers what can we do to protect our young ones?

It's time to "wake up and smell the coffee" regarding today's increasing moral decline pointing to our desperate need for national repentance and a Third Great Awakening in America.

  • A father asked CNN's Chris Cuomo, "What if my 12-year-old daughter doesn't want to see [men] in the girl's locker room?" He responded, "Her overprotective father should teach her tolerance."

Authentic Christians should have a passion for the restoration of New Testament Christianity. We should desire entire cities be converted, angelic visitations be frequent, demons be cast out and God's power manifest in dramatic healings and miracles.

But we must not romanticize the early church experience as if there was perfect unity, pervasive peace and nonstop healings. A careful reading of Scripture dispels any such notion. Not everyone was healed, believers suffered martyrdom and because of division it's noted, "For this reason many are weak and unhealthy among you, and many die" (1 Cor. 11:30).

Recently, I had a protracted period of suffering from an ailment, eventually requiring surgery, followed by several months of rehabilitation. During this season, demons tried to create mental guilt handles, whispering that if I had done or not done certain things, this never would've happened.

"... there is nothing new under the sun. Is there a matter where it is said, 'See, this is truly new'? Long ago in the past every matter has already been in our midst" (Eccl. 1:9b-10).

The Bible records the factual and outrageous tale of a woman, Mrs. Potiphar, and her attempt to derail the promotion of an exemplary man of character. He was a handsome and most trusted official with important duties providentially being prepared for greater responsibilities as a statesman serving the entire nation.

This married and manipulative woman hatched a scheme to falsely accuse this man of serious sexual misconduct. She stirred up grave trouble for Joseph by boldly and emotionally lying that he had attempted to rape her. Her wickedness cost him his reputation, position and landed him in jail.

Thank God, in that episode things worked out for the good after the accused endured lengthy unjust suffering and disgrace, but this is not always the case. In the current situation involving Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, multitudes like the president and I want to be respectful to his accuser, affording her the opportunity to speak. But by way of reminder, we must do so with a biblical worldview upholding our time-honored system of American justice and due process of law.

A refreshing interview with Erica Wiggenhorn, the author and teacher of "The Unexplainable Church"

Frustrated with the watered-down, “light” Bible studies that are all too common, Erica Wiggenhorn wanted to write a study that went deep. She wanted to take readers verse-by-verse through a whole book of the Bible, offering theological and historical comments in each lesson while remaining practical and relational.

The Unexplainable Church is the result, and it offers readers two great takeaways. It will teach them by example how to study the Bible deeply, and it will challenge them toward critical life-change: submitting their will to the mission of Jesus, who gives life its fullest meaning.

The message of The Unexplainable Church is that the early church didn’t grow because Peter and Paul were so amazing, but because average people were transformed by God and brought together in His work. This 10-week inductive study of Acts 13–28 will sweep readers into the great drama of the Kingdom, inspiring them to live together in the power of the Spirit and accomplish what could never be done alone.

“Larry, can you send me a list of the most influential books that God used to shape your life?”

Missionaries who risk their lives daily in a foreign land sent me this request. My wife and I spent 3 1/2 hours with them in our home, and this humble couple who challenge me incredibly deserved a well-thought-out response.

Celebrating a birthday this week plus soon commemorating 47 years in vocational ministry, it seemed like an excellent time to recall the books that revolutionized my life.

The Christian and His Reading

“Please bring with you … the books, especially the manuscripts” (2 Tim.4:13, PHILLIPS).

Paul’s counsel to Timothy doubtless had reference to the Old Testament Scriptures but has application for other areas of reading as well. With his life drawing to a close, the apostle desired to invest his last season of life in continued growth and study, a learner to the very end. May that be our magnificent obsession too.

The Book of Ecclesiastes, penned by King Solomon, humanity’s wisest man, tells us, “Of making many books there is no end, and much study is a weariness to the flesh” (Eccl.12:12b). Therefore, it behooves us to be selective in our reading. Francis Bacon, the brilliant statement from the 16th century, reminds us, “Reading makes a learned man; speaking a skillful man; writing, an exact man.”

John Wesley had a passion for reading. Most of it was done while riding his horse! He propped up books on his saddle which enabled him to get through hundreds of volumes on a wide range of subjects.

“Leaders are readers” is the classic exhortation motivating us to engage in fellowship with great minds and those of exemplary character and fruitful lives. Remember the challenge, “You will be the same person you are today in a few years except for the company you keep and the books you read.”

Charles H. Spurgeon counseled his students: “Master those books you have. Read them thoroughly … a student will find that his mental constitution is more affected by one book thoroughly mastered than by 20 books he has merely skimmed. Little learning and much pride come of hasty reading … in reading let your motto be “much, not many.”

So what are the top 12 books God used to mold me as a man of God? After sacred Scripture, here’s my list, not necessarily in any order of importance.

A critical yet humorous look at how Jesus fits into our cultural milleau and how Christians are called to respond.

Not My Jesus
Embrace your sacred role in a changing world

“Who do you say that I am?”—Jesus of Nazareth

Jesus had dreadlocks! Jesus had blue eyes. Jesus would never say THAT!

Everyone claims to know something about Jesus. But they are likely incomplete. Jesus was judgmental! He called people names, and made fun of others! If you don’t know him this way, you should. Understanding who he is—and who he isn’t—is the key to knowing ourselves and how we are to live.

Not My Jesus is a humorous, yet poignant look at faith, culture, and life. Using everything from movies to Tweets, Bob Fabey helps us to think about how we view Jesus, the strengths and weaknesses of each approach, and how we are called to live.
In this book you will...
•Identify the way you and others primarily view Jesus
•Get a Biblical overview of who he really was (it’s not what you think!)
•Discover the sacred role you play
•Gain practical ways to live in light of who Jesus was

Are you ready to confront your Jesus and embrace your sacred role?

Is it just me, or are you aware of how many leaders and regular Christians seem to be falling by the wayside? Pastors committing suicide, resigning because of sexual escapades, “throwing in the towel” from discouragement or confessing they’ve just lost their passion for vocational ministry, people committed in local churches for decades simply dropping out and drifting in passivity.

John Calvin, one of the fathers of the Reformation, said in his dying hour, “All that I have done has been of no value. The wicked will gladly seize on the word. But I repeat it again, all that I have done is of no value.”

Have you ever felt like him? Can you identify with his feelings of failure and deep discouragement?

At the end of our lives, we don’t want to reflect back like John Calvin and feel regret and remorse. We want to finish well and full of hope like the apostle Paul. Let’s remember that if we want to finish the course and keep the faith, we’ve got to fight the good fight every single day. “For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, and I have kept the faith.” (2 Tim. 4:6-7).

In my room, I have a plaque with challenging words to remind me to continue running the race when I have setbacks: “Failure is never fatal and success is never final.”

What can keep us on course in our Christian life? Starting is easy, but sticking is hard! I believe a quality decision to be obedient in five areas is essential if we’re to finish as strongly as we started.

Another wonderful interview with Jay Lowder of Harvest Ministries.

Jay and I discuss all the particulars surrounding this "Hush-Hush" issue of suicide and what can be done? What are the signs? How can we be free to discuss and why we should discuss. Yes, even in our churches and ministries.

Suicidal thoughts, much like mental health conditions, can affect anyone regardless of age, gender or background. In fact, suicide is often the result of an untreated mental health condition. Suicidal thoughts, although common, should not be considered normal and often indicate more serious issues.

Each year, more than 41,000 individuals die by suicide, leaving behind their friends and family members to navigate the tragedy of loss. In many cases, friends and families affected by a suicide loss (often called “suicide loss survivors”) are left in the dark. Too often the feelings of shame and stigma prevent them from talking openly.

Once-Suicidal Evangelist Shares His Story to Help Others During National Suicide Prevention Month
Jay Lowder provides resources for recognizing warning signs

September is National Suicide Prevention Month, and Jay Lowder, international evangelist and founder of Jay Lowder Harvest Ministries, wants to share his story in hopes that it may help prevent another from ending his or her own life.

The past year has been marked by a number of high-profile suicides, including the deaths of Chef Anthony Bourdain, Designer Kate Spade and Musician Avicii. Suicide is a leading cause of death in the U.S., according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and on the rise. The CDC found suicides increased by more than 30 percent from 1999 to 2016.

"While I'm grateful for the emphasis on suicide prevention in September, this is a topic that needs to be addressed every day," said Lowder, who is author of "Midnight in Aisle 7." "We have an epidemic on the rise. Self-violence is without prejudice and affects people from every race, ethnicity, economic status and gender. No one is immune, and until we get serious about creating an open environment of discussion, we will continue to see people fall victim."

What an honor to speak with and interview Dr. Robert Jeffress, the Pastor of 1st Baptist Dallas, Texas and discuss his latest book "Choosing the Extraordinary Life" being distributed through all major booksellers, throughout the world Find it Here

The average adult works 40 hours a week, 50 weeks a year, for at least 30 years of his or her life. Outside of the hours spent working and taking care of children, mowing the lawn, grocery shopping and numerous other menial but necessary tasks consume the remaining time. But what if there was more to life than the humdrum rhythms of ordinary days?

Best-selling author and pastor Dr. Robert Jeffress wants readers to know that there is more—an extraordinary life is not only possible, but it’s ready and waiting. In his upcoming book, Choosing the Extraordinary Life: God’s 7 Secrets for Success and Significance (Baker Books, September 4, 2018), Jeffress shows readers God’s roadmap to living an extraordinary life full of purpose and meaning.

“The secret to an extraordinary life is understanding God’s purpose for our lives and then living it, “ writes Jeffress. “When we pursue God’s purpose, He will transform our ordinary existence into an extraordinary life. Nothing could be more significant than that.”

In Choosing the Extraordinary Life, Jeffress examines the life of Elijah, tracing Elijah’s transformation from ordinary to extraordinary and providing the seven secrets of success and significance that Christians must embrace in order to experience the incredible life that God promises.  #drrobertjeffress #extraordinarylife #hope #faith #significance #robertjeffress #pastorrobertjeffress #choosing #succe

A great interview with Plumb. Hear her heart of where she is right now. Beautifully Broken. Made some mistakes. Still stands forgiven.

Plumb, the artist behind Need You Now (2012) and Exhale (2015), will be releasing her newest album this week. The already released singles are continuing the success of her previous two collections, which combined for over 300,000 albums and millions of singles sold and streamed, an impressive authorial debut (memoir Need You Now – A Story of Hope, now in it’s fourth pressing), and close to 300 tour dates in 3 years (including 120+ with Big Daddy Weave in 2016). Recently, Plumb was gracious enough to take some time to answer our questions on this next season of life, which includes a new album dropping, the release of her new book, and a schedule full of festivals and touring.

 Please share.

In the last election, the number one issue was immigration and the controversial question to building a wall. To this day, it remains the central issue and there is much confusion and controversy! What does the Bible teach on this most important subject?

AUTHOR’S ADDENDUM: The day this commentary was submitted for publication, the pope released a global statement aligning with this third point.

The Catholic Church in America is on the ropes. It breaks my heart because I’m grateful for a heritage where my parents, who couldn’t afford a car, scrimped and saved for me to be blessed with 12 years of excellent parochial education. I thank God to this day for the numbers of dedicated priests, brothers and nuns who shaped my moral and spiritual life.

Years ago, I was privileged to write my autobiography, Clap Your Hands! A Young Catholic Encounters Christ, which reached over a quarter million people worldwide. I wrote the book to highlight one of the three points I make in this commentary which I believe could have helped prevent the shocking revelations regarding the current sex scandal among Catholic priests.

A Few Days Ago, I tried to counsel a grieving Catholic man who told me he was at a loss responding to justifiably angry people writing off Christianity and Catholicism because of what’s come to the surface. I believe this man and his wife are representative of scores of sincere Catholics who are deeply troubled and struggling with what to do and say.

I told John not to be defensive but listen attentively, agree with their legitimate disgust and, if the opportunity presents itself, offer humbly that Jesus shares righteous anger over this long-standing concealment and perverted abuse of children.

“Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck and he were thrown into the sea” (Mark 9:42).

What Happened?

A recent horrific Pennsylvania grand jury report revealed that in this one state alone, more than 300 predator priests sexually abused over 1000 children in a decades-old Catholic Church cover-up. The information was disgusting, inexcusable and leaves the reputation of the Roman Catholic church besmirched in a way that many believe will be irretrievable for generations. Jaw-dropping information that ordained ministers of God even used church property to produce child pornography is unconscionable, reprehensible and left millions of Americans aghast.

The perpetrators were shielded and simply shuffled about through therapy sessions then placed in other parishes to continue their aberrant behavior. According to the grand jury’s 1,356-page document, official diocese records showed church leaders even negotiated with state officials to conceal the crimes to avoid prosecution.
